Live Fish Foods: Brine Shrimp

Brine shrimp (Artemia) are a good food for most tropical fish. Adults may be purchased live or frozen and are greatly enjoyed. They do have somewhat lower nutriotional value than the newly emerged shrimp (nauplii), which are an absolutely outstanding food source for fry and smaller species. If you want to raise fry there is nothing better to feed them than baby brine shrimp - however this does require the eggs (cysts) themselves, some hatching equipment, including salt mix and a little patience. Any experienced aquarist will tell you that this is time and money very well spent.
